EU leaders renew vows on 60th anniversary of Treaty of Rome

In spite of Britain’s exit from the European Union, all the other 27 leaders gathered at a special summit in Rome to mark the 60th anniversary of of the bloc’s founding treaties. This Treaty of Rome was signed on March 25, 1957.Pope Francis gave messages of solidarity in the Vatican to grace the occasion. Short videos showing how the EU has salvaged Europe from the tragedy of bloodshed was shown at the summit. The European commission president Jean-Claude Juncker, Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council, and the prime minister of Malta, Joseph Muscat, spoke about the importance of cooperation.
