Bioresorbable stents banned in Europe

Bioresorbable stents that have been the largest selling stent in India has been pulled from the European market. These stents will be available only in clinical registry setting at select sites where they will be monitored. This development has been taken after several studies have shown that these stents are not superior to existing drug eluting stents and that they have worse outcomes as well. Abbott the maker of these stents is working jointly with the European Regulatory Agencies to address concerns of increased risk of stent thrombosis and other risks the studies had highlighted.
