Price of key drugs to be curbed

Government has set up a panel to make drugs affordable for common man by curbing the prices of key drugs. The panel has been asked to suggest penalty also to prevent companies from overcharging consumers on pharmaceutical products. Healthcare expenditure has been on the rise with patients required to take medication throughout their lives for diseases like diabetes, cancer and hypertension. This committee will also suggest changes in the existing drug law and will give more power to National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).
