Mumbai municipal blood bank wastes huge quantity of  blood

Data from the Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS) has revealed that a Kandivli blood bank attached to the municipal corporation has wasted 856 liters of blood between 2009 and 2017. It was also revealed that the hospital tried to fudge figures on blood waste to avoid punitive action. The blood bank serves the Shatabdi and Bhagwati municipal hospitals. It has collected about 19,163units of blood during the period out of which 12% expired. Statistics maintained by the hospital also showed that 22,198 units of blood was collected out of which 1,336 units got spoilt because of non-usage.
