New brain ‘wonder-drug’ creating headlines

Two new drugs have been found that stop brain cells dying and are already safely used in people. Prof Giovanna Mallucci, from the MRC Toxicology Unit in Leicester is excited by this news. She is planning to start human clinical trials on dementia patients soon and expects to know whether the drugs work within two to three years. This drug is focused on the natural defence mechanisms built into brain cells.
